V2C Forum 2004 Venture-to-Capital
Marko Seppä

Marko Seppä is Director of eBRC, the joint venture of the Tampere University
of Technology (TUT) and the University of Tampere. In 2001-2002 he
co-launched eBRC as a sub-program of the eTampere program (2001-2005), as
the TUT project director. During 1997-2000, he studied at the University of
Jyväskylä as Doctoral Student and served, part-time, as Senior Lecturer and
(in US terms) Assistant Professor of Corporate Strategy.
During 1986-1996, Marko Seppä served in the venture capital industry. After
apprenticeship years at Panostaja plc, he established their Russian market
arm, FVC, as founding Managing Director in 1991. Later, he took FVC through
MBO and expansion to the Baltic markets, and led the firm as Chairman and
Partner until partial sale to Thominvest Oy. His key responsibilities
included portfolio companies A/O Kareltrans (Russia) and AS Mainor
(Estonia), as well as international investor relations. Since 1997 he has
practiced venture capital, part-time, via his private company.
Marko Seppä is Dr. Econ. in Corporate Strategy from the University of
Jyväskylä and M.Sc. in Econ. & B.A. from the University of Tampere. In
1990-1991, he completed part of his doctoral course work as Visiting Scholar
at the University of Oregon. In the U.S., he also completed the 17th Venture
Capital Institute of the NASBIC & the NVCA, in 1991. During 2002-2004, he
served as adjunct international faculty of the Bombay School of Business, in
Mumbai, India. His key research interest's cover growth strategies, venture
capital, V2C, and knowledge asset management. He is member of the editorial
board of Venture Capital: An international journal of entrepreneurial
finance.
