3. FVCA Training Session: Early Stage Venture Capital Strategies

According to FVCA, almost 90% of all seed stage investments in Finland, in 2004, were made by public sector investors. At the same time, over 90% of all venture capital investments were made by private investors. According to Thomson Venture Economics, over the past 20 years, in Europe overall, early stage venture capital funds have provided a compounded average IRR of 0,2% vs. buyout funds at 12,3%. In the US, the equivalent rates of return have been 19% for early stage funds vs. 13,8% for buyout funds. Inevitably this leads one to ponder, what on earth is wrong in our early stage venture capital investing in Finland and Europe? The FVCA training session will bring together seed venture capital experts from the US and Europe to find ways to increase private sector participation and performance of early stage venture capital financing.

Workshop Hosts:

Guus Keder, Partner, Axiom Venture Capital
William Paulin, Principal, Paulin Neal Associates, Inc.
Krista Rantasaari, Secretary General, Finnish Venture Capital Association
Jorma Routti, Executive Chairman, CIM Creative Industries Management
