Venture-to-Capital - a Framework for Growth Venturing and Professional Ownership

Tommi Rasila

This study builds a theory of growth venturing as a practical phenomenon, contributing to the understanding of owners and managers of the ventures, as well as financiers, advisors and policy makers. It defines the elements required by growth venturing – Entrepreneurship, Equity Financing, Ownership and Management – and synthesizes the theory of Venture-to-Capital. This new framework includes the operating modes, milestones and actors of the V2C arena.

The study also analyses the operating models of both prevalent and emerging actors in this operating arena. As new kinds of actors have emerged alongside the traditional ones of the Venture-to-Capital arena, 14 case studies are conducted and the five existing actor classes analysed – Advisor, Incubator, Seed Venture Capitalist, Business Angel and Business Angel Network. As a result, an improved, evolutionary classification of Venture-to-Capital actors is presented alongside with a normative model of a V2C actor.
